Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers. Here are some of the most common questions new members ask about joining our club.
What should I bring to my first class?
For your first session, just bring comfortable athletic clothing (no zippers or pockets, if possible), a bottle of water, and a positive attitude! We’ll provide everything else you need, including a loaner gi (BJJ uniform), if required.
Do I need any prior martial arts experience to join?
No experience is necessary! Our classes are designed to accommodate all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Everyone is welcome, and our instructors are skilled at guiding you step-by-step.
What should I wear for training?
For beginners, comfortable gym clothes are fine, but once you decide to train regularly, we recommend investing in a gi (BJJ uniform). We also offer “no-gi” classes where you can wear athletic shorts and a rash guard.
Do I need to be in shape to start training?
Absolutely not! BJJ is a fantastic way to get fit, and many people start with little to no fitness background. Our classes will help you build strength, flexibility, and endurance at your own pace.
How do belt promotions work in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Belt promotions in BJJ are based on skill level, consistency, and dedication, not just time in training. Progressing in BJJ takes time and practice, but our coaches will help guide you on your journey. Promotions are typically awarded during class or special events.
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu safe for beginners and kids?
Yes, BJJ is designed to be a safe and effective martial art for all ages. Our instructors are trained to ensure safety in every class, focusing on technique and control. Kids learn in a fun, structured environment that emphasizes discipline and respect.
Can I bring my kids to train too?
Depending on the child's age, the lessons we offer are designed to teach discipline, coordination, and confidence to children in a safe and fun way. Our classes focus on foundational techniques and age-appropriate drills to help them develop both physically and mentally.
How many times a week should I train?
The frequency of training depends on your goals and schedule. Beginners often start with one or two sessions a week, while advanced students may train several times per week. Our coaches are happy to discuss a training plan that works best for you.
Can I try a class before committing?
Absolutely! We offer a free trial class so you can experience our club and see if it’s the right fit for you. Just contact us to schedule your trial session.
